Cold Storage Containing Ahmadi Woman’s Body Set on Fire by Unknown Individuals in Shakargarh, Punjab

Shakargarh: In a disturbing incident in the village of Kala, located in the Shakargarh tehsil of Punjab’s Narowal District, unknown individuals set fire to a cold storage box that, according to local residents, contained the body of a deceased woman belonging to the Ahmadiyya community.

Reports suggests that the woman had passed away a few days earlier. Due to the unavailability of immediate family members who were traveling from other cities, her burial was temporarily delayed. In the meantime, the body was preserved in a cold storage box.

According to reports, it is a local tradition in the area for the community to collectively arrange for a cold storage unit during the summer months. This is done to preserve bodies in the event of delayed funerals caused by logistical or familial circumstances.

However, tensions reportedly escalated when local residents discovered that the deceased belonged to the Ahmadiyya community — a religious minority that faces systemic persecution in Pakistan. Following this revelation, unknown assailants set the cold storage unit on fire, completely destroying it.

As of now, no formal complaint has been filed at the local police station regarding the incident.
